Outpatient Psychiatry for Women – In-Person & Online

Women experience unique physical and emotional changes throughout their lives, from monthly hormonal fluctuations to pregnancy, postpartum, and peri- or postmenopause. These changes can impact mood, anxiety, sleep, and overall mental wellbeing.

Women’s mental health treatment focuses specifically on these experiences, providing specialized care that differs from general mental health services. Patients benefit most from working with a women’s mental health psychiatrist or nurse practitioner who has expertise in this area of care.

Fine Tune Psychiatry offers a team of women’s mental health providers, offering psychiatric evaluations and medication management, with both in-office and online options tailored for women. Services include pregnancy treatment planning, postpartum depression care, premenstrual symptom management, and peri- and postmenopausal treatment.

Women’s Mental Health Conditions Treated at Fine Tune

Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

PMDD is a condition where women experience mood swings, anxiety, sleep changes, and irritability before their period, causing considerable distress. Symptoms typically begin a week or two before menstruation and resolve within a day or two after. PMDD can significantly affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, work, and school. It is treatable through a combination of psychiatric medication management, therapy, lifestyle adjustments, vitamins, and behavioral strategies.

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression affects women after childbirth, causing sadness, low energy, and reduced ability to enjoy life. Symptoms can include changes in sleep, appetite, focus, motivation, and self-confidence, and in severe cases, suicidal thoughts or psychosis. Effective treatment options include medication management, therapy in-office or online, supplements, and behavioral strategies—all part of specialized women’s mental health treatment.

Perimenopausal Depression, Anxiety & Insomnia

Hormonal changes during peri- and postmenopause can worsen or trigger symptoms like depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Women’s mental health clinicians at Fine Tune Psychiatry help manage these emotional challenges while also considering physical symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, joint pain, and sexual discomfort. Providers can collaborate with OBGYNs and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care for emotional and physical wellbeing during this life stage.

Our Women’s Mental Health Treatment Process

Our providers create personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

Your First Visit for Women’s Mental Health

The first appointment includes a thorough 60 minute psychiatric evaluation with a women’s mental health provider. The evaluation covers both general psychiatric conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD, and substance use disorders, as well as conditions unique to women.

Based on the evaluation, the provider develops a tailored treatment plan, which may include medication management, therapy, medical workups, collaboration with OBGYNs and primary care providers, lab tests, lifestyle adjustments, vitamins, supplements, and behavioral strategies.

Therapy for Women

Our clinicians can incorporate psychotherapy into their sessions as needed. Treatment for PMDD, postpartum depression, and peri- and postmenopausal symptoms may include education, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and supportive therapy. If someone needs more intensive or focused therapy, our providers can refer to and collaborate with therapists who are focused on women’s mental health.

Medication Management

Medication management is an important part of holistic women’s mental health care for PMDD, postpartum depression, peri- and postmenopausal symptoms, and other related conditions. Providers develop individualized treatment plans that may include medication, therapy, co-occurring condition management, and behavioral strategies, ensuring care is patient-centered and adaptable.
